Frequently Asked Questions
Did your water pipe burst? Do you have a blocked drain? Are you receiving high water bills?
Crawford Plumbing Vic is at your service in Melbourne for all kinds of plumbing issues.
1. How do I prevent drains in my house from clogging?
The first and the most important step is to be careful of what you are letting go down your drains. Hair, left-over food or oil are few of the things you should watch out for. You can also put a drain strainer on the drain’s opening. This will help filter the materials from going down the drains and blocking it.
2. What can I do if the drains are blocked?
Firstly, don’t pour harmful chemicals in the drains. This may lead to erosion of the pipes. You can pour baking soda or vinegar down the drain followed by hot water. This will make the clogged substance melt. You can also do this as a general practice for preventing drains from clogging.
3. Should I be really worried about leaks?
Yes, of course. Firstly, leaks lead to a lot of water wastage. Second, your water bill can shoot up. Third, pipe leakages, with time, can become bigger in size and may pose a threat of flooding in your house. You wouldn’t want to have an emergency situation at home right? Call us for a water leak detection in Melbourne.
4. How do I know it’s time for hot water heater replacement?
If your water heater has been giving you trouble and it’s been very long since you got the water heater installed, say more than 8 years, it’s probably time! Else, it’s time for a service. Check if the water smells bad, is rust coloured or there is any leakage or moisture around the heater.
5. Should I not flush anything down the toilet?
Yes, you absolutely should not. Why flush it down when you can throw it in the bin! Avoid flushing things like paper towels, sanitary napkins, wet wipes, baby wipes, dental floss, cotton, hair, etc. Also, do not pour any kind of liquid in the flush. Just because it’s liquid does not mean it will go down the drain.
6. Few taps of my home have very low water pressure. What can I do?
This is generally because of blockage due to built-up calcium or lime from hot water on the nozzle of the tap. You can take the nozzle out and dip it in equal parts of hot water and vinegar for some time. This should clear the nozzle.
7. How do I keep my taps clean?
Taps, with time, develop watermarks and stains on them.To prevent this, you can regularly wipe them with a damp cloth. Sometimes the manufacturing company has mentioned special cleaning instructions, which you can refer to for stubborn stains which do not go by a cloth. Refrain from using cleaning solutions that are hard on the surface.
8. I get a bad smell from the hot water sometimes, why is that?
Foul smell is generally caused due to the presence of sulphur, hydrogen and bacteria in the water. While sulphur and bacteria is generally present in the water, hydrogen is formed when the magnesium anode rod reacts with the sulphur and bacteria present in the water. This can be removed by changing the magnesium rod.
9. I think I might have a broken sewer line. How long does it take to repair it?
It depends if the sewer line needs to be repaired or replaced altogether. It might take 3-5 days for that depending on the length of the pipes and depth of them. Bigger the pipes, more the time needed for its replacement.
